Saturday in Santa Monica

The shop I wanted to check out was closed after over an hour drive!...grrr....

1時間以上かけて到着したお目当てのショップ、閉まってた！えーん。。

 So getting out of down town LA, heading to Santa Monica~

というわけで、ダウンタウンLAからサンタモニカへ移動～

Abott Kinney, Los Angeles

Visited Abott Kinney in Venice, Los Angeles on the weekend.

I thought it matches with the atmosphere of the town.

週末はベニス(ロス)のアボットキニーに行ってきました。

画像はニコンD5100のカラースケッチで編集したもの。

町の雰囲気に合う気がして。

ロデオドライブ。

 

何度か車で通過したことしかない、ビバリーヒルズのロデオドライブ。

一度は行っておくか、ということで、今回は初めて車をとめて、歩いてみることにしました。

車がやけにすんなりとめられた、と思いきや、それもそのはず。

ほとんどのショップが月～土は6時、日曜日は5時で閉店してしまうのです。

ステキなオープンカフェ達は賑わっていましたが。

大御所ブランドショップ達がずらりと立ち並び、セレブ（＆観光客）御用達、

という雰囲気が漂っていました。

周りにはニーマンマルカス、サックスフィフスアベニュー、

バーニーズニューヨークなどのデパートも。

規模自体は小さくて、ぱーっと歩いて終わり、というかんじで、

これだったら銀座の方が断然楽しいかも・・・なんて思ってしまいました。。

LAの個性的でいかにもカリフォルニア～なセレクトショップ通りといえば、

アボットキニーでしょうか。一度は行っておかねば・・・。 

あと、 サンタモニカにあるHennessey + Ingallsという、

アート＆デザイン系の本屋さんも気になっています。

帰りに、そこから車で5分くらいのウエストウッドの

サフロン＆ローズアイスクリーム（1387 Westwood Blvd）

  というペルシャ系アイスクリーム屋さんに寄り、

キューカンバーとサフロン＆ピスタチオのアイスを堪能。

（写真を撮るのを忘れてしまったのですが・・・・）

パージャンアイスを食べたことがない人には

まずは定番のサフロン＆ピスタチオをお勧めしたいのですが、

今回試したきゅうり味がかなり絶妙ではまってしまいました！
甘さ控えめで、とっても美味しかったです。

周辺にはその他、小さなカフェ風イタリアンやフレンチビストロなどが
立ち並んでいます。

 来週末はOCのコロマデルマーにある庭園を

散策したいな、と思っています。

Long Way to Malibu

Playa Del Rey

We planned to visit Santa Barbara on Saturday. It's about 135miles (215km) drive. Since freeway is boring, we decided to take Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) North all the way up. We started from Newport Beach, passing through all the beach cities such as Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Marina Del Ray, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, finally arriving Malibu.

土曜日はサンタバーバラに行ってみようとことに。サンタバーバラはここから車で１３５マイル（２１５キロ）ほど。フリーウェイは退屈なので、ハイウェイ１（パシフィックコーストハイウェイ）を北上することにしました。ニューポートビーチを出発し、ハンティングトンビーチ、シールビーチ、ロングビーチ、レドンドビーチ、ハモサビーチ、マンハッタンビーチ、エルセグンド、マリーナデルレイ、ベニスビーチ、サンタモニカなどの海辺の町を通りすぎてマリブに到着。

Santa Monica

It was quite an adventure to go through some unfamiliar areas in those cities. Because of the heavy traffic, it took much longer than we expected to drive up this route that made us feel like we came such a long way. Meanwhile, the weather was super gloomy against our wish. We stopped by Starbucks at Malibu Country Mart for a coffee break where we decided to put off our Santa Barbara trip, which was 60 more miles to go, to some other time. After resting on the super comfy sofa at Starbucks, enjoying the canyon view through the window, we walked around, getting a muffin at the market for another break time. This is how our rest of the day with the alternative plan went by slowly.

そんな町の馴染みのないエ リアを通りすぎていくのはアドベンチャー感満載でした。途中、かなりの渋滞だったので、このルートでのドライブは思ったよりもずっと時間がかかってしまい、なんだかずいぶん長旅をした気分に陥りました。お天気はというと、希望に反したどんより空。というわけで、コーヒー休憩にと立ち寄ったマリブカントリーマートのスタバにて、あと６０マイル （９５キロ）だったサンタバーバラの旅を延期することに決定。スタバのふかふかソファに坐って窓から渓谷の眺めを楽しんだ後、てくてく歩き回って今度はマーケットでマフィンを買ってまた休憩タイム。こうして残りの一日は別プランによってゆっくりと過ぎていきました。

Malibu Kitchen & Gourmet Country Market

It got even gloomier on the way back home. (We took an easy freeway this time...) Unlike the typical image of California, we have been having very moody days so far this year. Weekends have been overcast. Oh well, it's definitely not as fun to hang out when the weather is like this but I always enjoy a short trip with a bit of discovery.

帰りはさらにどんよりでした。（今度はさすがにフリーウェイで。）カリフォルニアのイメージとは裏腹に、今年は今のところ変なお天気が続いています。週末はここのところ曇り空ばかり。お天気がこんなだと、外出も今いちな気分ではありますが、それでもちょっとした発見が味わえる小旅行はいつでも楽しい気分にさせてくれるものです。

We do a little bit of exploring here and there on weekend.
We tend not to get out of our neighborhood, but once in a while we cruise around outside of OC.
Where we end up stopping by are no difference wherever we go though ; beaches, cafes, and cute shops :) They are what make me happy and inspire me.

Believe or not, I hadn't been to Malibu till today. "Malibu Country Mart" had a lot of interesting shops. The shops that Japanese girls are familiar with such as "Kitson", "Ron Herman", "Grom", etc. There are also some flagship shops like Alice + Olivia and James Perse inside this cute mall. I liked Anouk. (←very Californian) I liked the woody & earthy architectural layout. There are some fish tanks set up in one area where colorful tropical fishes are swimming around. Loved it:)

Btw, macaron is so cute......I couldn't help taking a photo!

週末はあちこちちょびっと探索に出かけたりします。
近所からあまり出ないことが多いのですが、たまにOCから出てドライブしたりもします。たいてい行き着く先はどこに行っても、ビーチ、カフェ、かわいいショップ、と同じだったりするのですが、、、。私がハッピーな気持ちになれてインスピレーションを見い出せる場所なのです。

何を隠そう、マリブには今日の今日まで行ったことがなく、、、。『マリブカントリーマート』にはたくさんいいかんじのショップが入っていました。日本人女子におなじみのキットソン、ロンハーマン、グロムなどなど。アリスアンドオリビア、ジェイムスパースなどのフラッグショップも。アヌークがとってもカリフォルニアなかんじでかわいかった。ウッディな建物の作りもステキでした。水槽が設置されている場所があり、カラフルな熱帯魚が泳ぎ回っていたり。

ところで、マカロンてほんとにかわいいわー。ついついパシャリ！

Girard Avenue Collection

Found a cute antique shop called "Girard Avenue Collection" on Girard Ave in La Jolla. The shop is filled with home accessories and unique furniture. Next door is also a cute shop called "Seaside Home".
Girard Avenue is lined up with lots of pretty boutiques and furniture shops that I would love to spend some hours to walk around.  


ラ・ホヤ（サンディエゴ）のギラード通りに ギラード・アベニュー・コレクションというかわいいアンティークショップを見つけました。中は雑貨や個性的な家具でいっぱい。隣りのお店も「シーサイド・ホーム」というかわいいお店。
ギラード・アベニューは、散策にじっくり時間をかけたいような、かわいい洋服屋や家具屋でいっぱいです。
