Clock on the Desk

My desk welcomed a new tiny clock. I didn't think of needing one till now; I never cared for tracking time when making jewelry. Guidebooks tell you that you take the actual producing time into consideration: if it takes one hour, you would add your hourly rate to the cost, theoretically. In reality, it's not always applicable. My design process usually takes lots of detours; it turns out different from my original sketch, sometimes far from it. Each piece needs to be twisted and played around until the balance and the texture look right. Things don't often come out the same as you would expect.. So, I reached the conclusion that for me, time doesn't go with the pricing unless it's a repetitive design. 

Still, I'm thinking that it's good to get the idea how long each piece takes. I wouldn't probably care much but just to get a random idea.

マイデスクに小さな時計を置いてみました。ジュエリーを作ってる際に時間を計るわけでもないので必要ないと思っていたのですが。ビジネス的には、作成にかかった時間を気にかけ、1時間ならば、自分の1時間分のレートをコストに加算する、というのが一般的。でも実際にはそうはいかないことが多いです。私の場合、デザイン過程でたくさん寄り道回り道があったりします。オリジナルスケッチとは違うもの、時にはほんとにまったく程遠いものになることも。バランスと質感がしっくりくるまでかなりいじり回します。なかなか思い通りにはいかないもので。。というわけで、時間的なことは値段には組み込めないな、という結論に達したのです。同じデザインを繰り返す、ということであればまた別ですが。

とはいえ、それぞれの作品がどのくらいかかるものなのか、目安として知っておくのもよいな、と。やっぱりあまり気にはしないだろうけれど、ほんの目安として。

Lemon Quartz Ring & Switching Desks

Another bezel ring with refreshing & sparkling lemon quartz. The stone is quite a beauty, believed to bring you optimism, well being, creativity, and focus on goals.

The project in the whole morning was switching work stations.
With this new setting, the beading desk got more space while the metalwork desk has less space but is heavier so it resists hammering and banging more. I'm liking it.

またまたベゼル（覆輪留め）リング。爽やかでキラキラのレモンクオーツで。
楽観、心身の快調と繁栄、創造性、集中力を促してくれると言われる、とてもきれいな石です。

午前中は作業場の移動に追われておりました。
ビーズ作業用は大きい机の方に、彫金用は小さいけれど打ち作業にもぐっと耐えれるどっしり重い机の方に。なかなかよいかんじ。

Tools & Classy Crystal Jewelry

Today

All my tools and findings are now unpacked and in order.
I worked on a few pieces, played with dogs, and repeated this before dark.
I have no idea how not to spoil this little critter.

I'm expecting my hand torch to arrive soon so I can start working on rings and things.
It's 9pm and I am exhausted! Hoping to photograph some new jewelry tomorrow.

道具や材料の荷解き＆整頓完了。
数点作ってはワンコ達と遊び、それを暗くなるまで繰り返しました。
このちっこい方、どうやったら甘やかさずにいられるんだか皆目検討もつかず。

ハンドバーナーが到着すれば、リングやらその他もろもろに取りかかれます。
9時の段階でもうへとへと！明日は新作の写真が少し撮れたらいいな。

New desk arrived & one-of-a-kind rug

Here's my tiny desk. It was getting over capacity... so we went to IKEA for another desk. By the way, I got this magnifying lamp the other day and loving it so much!! Highly recommended.

こちら、私の小さな机です。容量オーバーになってきているため、 二台目求めてIKEAへ。ところで、この顕微鏡付きのランプを先日ゲットしたのですが、かなりのスグレ物！！オススメです。

So, this is the new work station for metalwork. My original desk is now for beading only with all my gemstone beads on it. So far the space I need is those two desk areas and also the sink but that's about it. Oh also the coffee table that I photograph my jewelry on. It's pretty compact, right?

そしてこちらがメタルワーク用の新作業机です。一台目はビーズワークの際のみに使用ということで、天然石ビーズはこちらに保管。今のところ、必要なスペースはこの二台の机とシンクといったかんじです。あ、それと、ジュエリーを撮影するコーヒーテーブル。まあまあコンパクトな方ですよね？

Off the topic, sharing here is a rug that was handwoven by my boyfriend's cousins who spent days and days to complete this for him. His name is also on it. What a fascinating gift! Can you imagine how they make this beautiful pattern by hand?

話は変わりますが、こちらのラグは相棒君の従姉妹達が手織りしたもので、完成までに何日も何日もかけてプレゼントしてくれました。しかも彼の名前入り。なんてステキな贈り物！いったいどうやってこのきれいな模様を手で作り上げるのか、想像もつきません。

My desk gets messy so quickly but the other day I decided to do a major cleaning.
Although it's very tiny, this desk still holds everything I need.
