Victoria Beach, Laguna Beach

 

 

 

 

Sunny Saturday, wandering along Victoria Beach in Laguna to see

"Pirate Tower" and "Tide Pools".

And here it is!

 

 

晴れの土曜日。

「パイレート(海賊)タワー」と「タイド(潮)プール」を見に、

ラグナのビクトリアビーチをお散歩。

ありました！これこれ。

 

 

 

 

It seemed to be a higher tide at the time.

The pool, which could be completely empty in the low tide,

was so full, making the splashes whenever the wave hit the edge.

How thrilling!

 

 

 

ちょうど潮が満ちてきている時間だったようで、

完全に空っぽのときもあるらしいこのプールも溢れんばかりの満水。

プールの縁を高波がバシャーン！

スリル満点。

 

 

 

 

 

And...this is what I was so curious about: Pirate Tower.

Despite the historical look of it, it's actually not too old and has nothing to do with pirates.

It was playfully built by the owner of the house above the tower as a staircase to get down to the beach.

Looking through the rustic lattice door, I did see the stairs or latters? going up inside the narrow space that the claustrophobic people wouldn't be able to stand!

The door is locked and it looks pretty much abandoned now.

 

It is also known to have been owned by Bette Middler in 80s - 90s.

 

 

そしてそして。

これが見たかったんです。

歴史の匂いがするこのパイレートタワー。

実はそんなに古くもないし、海賊、も名ばかり。

この崖の上のお家の所有者が1926年に建てたもので、

中は階段になっていて要は家からビーチをつなぐ専用通路になっている、というオチ。

錆びた格子戸の隙間から覗いてみると、確かに階段、というか梯子？が上に続いてる。

閉所恐怖症の人はアウトだろうな、という狭さ。

中からはしっかり錠がかかってて、ずっと使われてないかんじ。

 

ちなみに80〜90年代にはベットミドラーの別荘だったんだそうです。

  

 

 

 

 

 

At the foot of the tower, the wave was getting higher and higher...

It was quite a challenge for me who usually doesn't take much risks 

but is completely laid back when it comes to photographing.

First of all, I was worried about the camera.

I was afraid that the wave would get high enough to take us (me and camera)!

So, this splashy shot might become my first and last time.

Yes, I'm not so much of a gutsy person.

 

 

 

タワーに着いたはいいが、波はどんどん高くなり、

いつも挑戦心のないゆるい撮影ばかりしている私には

初めて危機感が伴う体験でした。

大切な宝であるカメラのことが心配だし、

迫り来る高波ってやっぱり襲われそうで怖い！

こんなショットは最初で最後かもな。

ビビリな私………

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But....

I understand a little bit now that this kind of thrill could be addictive.

 

とはいえ、

こういうスリルが癖になるの、少しわかる気がする。

 

 

 

 

Climbing up on this small stairway, taking a last look to say good bye.

Will be back.

 

 

ビーチに続くこの狭い階段を登り、

最後の一瞥。

また来ます。

 

 

 

 

 

Stopped by Koffee Klatch for latte before heading home.

While relaxing in this cozy place, it was becoming darker and darker outside.

 

 

帰路に着く前に、コーヒークラッチにてラテ休憩。

まったりしてる間に、外はすっかり暗くなってました。
