San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary ~サンワキン野生動物保護地域

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Monday afternoon spent in this Irvine's hidden gem,

San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary.

マーチンルーサーキングジュニアデー月曜の午後は、ここアーバインの隠れスポット、

サンワキン野生動物保護地域で過ごしました。

The trail surrounded by bushes and trees makes a mile circle around ponds.

I imagine these bushes are home to animals like coyote, bobcat, rabbits and more but

they don't want to show themselves. I sometimes hear rustles deep in there, that's it.

 

小道は藪や木々に囲まれ、池の周りをぐるりと1マイル（1.6キロ）ほど。

藪にはコヨーテやらオオヤマネコやらウサギやらが生息しているんだと思われるのですが、

彼らはとんと姿を見せず。たまに奥の方でガサガサっと音がするのみ。

 

 

 

 

Plants and trees are faded or showing exposed branches in this time of the year.

Leaves look like birds when swaying to the wind.

 

この時期、植物や木々は枯れ気味だったり枝が剥き出しだったりという様相。

風に揺れる葉っぱが鳥に見えたりして。

 

 

Far away up on the very tall pole are these unusual looking fellas.

I first thought they are seagulls but no, they look a lot bigger than seagulls.

Later I found out these are a family of osprey or sea hawk.

They are guarding their newborn chicks that are chirping so loudly.

The paths to get near the pole are currently closed for them so this is the closest I could go,

(good to know that they are truely protected over here) but it was quite a moment.

 

向こうの方のにょきっと妙に高い柱になにやら見慣れぬ輩たちを発見。

最初はカモメかと思ったものの、カモメよりもかなり大きい。

後に分かったのですが、これはミサゴ（シーホーク・魚鷹）の家族だったようです。

ピーピーと大声で喚いている雛をしっかりとガードしている図。

彼らに近づける道は現在閉鎖中。(徹底した保護対策でなによりです）

というわけで、この距離が限界だったのですが、なかなか感慨深いものがありました。

 

 

I saw a few of these rufous hummingbirds resting on the branch.

They are so tiny and cute.

 

枝で憩い中のハチドリ（アカフタオという種類？）数羽に出会いました。

とっても小さくてかわいらしい。

 

 

And this precious bright red beauty stunned me!

I didn't think this type of colorful bird would exist in this area.

Vermilion flycather it is. It can't be more perfect to wrap up my birdwatching day.

 

そして、この鮮やかな赤い鳥！

こんなカラフルな鳥がこの近辺に生息しているとは。

ベニタイランチョウというそうです。

本日のバードウォッチングを素敵に締めくくってくれました。

 

 

The sun is about to go when all the crows start to cry

and fly from one side of the sky to the other.

 

お日様が別れを告げる頃、一斉に鳴きだし、

空を横切り始めるカラスたち。
