Brass Silver / Bi Metal

 

Here are more pieces with brass. 

Featured stones are moonstone, topaz, onyx, pearl, emerald and sapphire. 

I really like how they turned out.

Yet, it was more time consuming to make and harder to sell

so I kind of discontinued the brass production.

I may try again. I just love the antique look.

We'll see.

ブラスシリーズ第二弾。

ムーンストーン、トパーズ、オニキス、パール、エメラルド、サファイアを使っています。

完成品には満足だったのですが、

制作に時間がかかりすぎるわりに、なかなか売れないので、

これ以降ブラスをだんだん取り入れなくなっていきました。

でもまたやってみようかな。

このアンティーク風な雰囲気がとても好きなので。

Pastel Toned Jewelry

 

Mixing colors has been the biggest joy and challenge in my jewelry making journey.

It usually takes hours to decide on the composition; which gems to use and where.

I just spend hours till I feel this: OK, this is it!

I think this process to me is like playing a puzzle game.

I included lots of milky pastel stones here, like chalcedony and rose quartz.

これまでのジュエリー作り遍歴にて、色合わせは一番の楽しみであり、

一番手ごわい部分だったりします。

どの石をどこへ・・という組み立てに何時間もかかります。

「よし、これだ！」となるまでただただ何時間でも時間をかけます。

多分、この過程は私にとってはパズルをしている感覚なんだと思います。

ここでご紹介している作品たちに使っているパステル系の石は

カルセドニーやローズクオーツなどです。

A little bit of painting

 

 

I occasionally paint when I want new backdrops for photographing jewelry pieces. 

Top ones are done on canvas that can be used for such background and the ones below 

are on sketchbook, like daily doodle completely random. 

Acrylic is my favorite so far. I love the price😁 and love how forgiving it is

when layering, editing and how you can build a texture. 

If you don't like the outcome, you simply paint something else over it.

Simple, easy, dries quick, not messy.

What you paint that day is only made that day. 

Colors you use would be different each day.

Viewing these makes me want to paint again,

just randomly and freely.

ジュエリーの背景が必要なときにたまにこういう絵を描いています。

上の方はそういう背景用に、キャンバスに仕上げ、

下の方はらくがきのようなかんじでテキトーにスケッチブックに。

 

 アクリルが今のところ一番かな。

なんといってもお安いし、重ね塗りしたり修正したりしやすいし

質感も出せるところがよい。 

完成したものが気に入らなければまたその上から塗って

違うものにすればよい。

シンプル、簡単、すぐ乾くし汚れの面倒さもなし。

 

 その日に描くものはその日ならではのもの。

色だってその日によって違うものを選ぶだろうし。

この画像を見てたらまた描きたくなってくる。

ただただテキトーに、自由気ままに。

 

Laguna Beach Shaws Cove

One summer day in Laguna Beach, one of my favorite spots called Shaws Cove.

I love gloomy beach. I find this dreamy melancholic mood so memorable and special. 

Water is very cold in California ocean even in mid summer. 

It's only 7 miles from home to the beach where it is usually at least 10 degree cooler.

ある夏の日のラグナビーチ、ショーズ・コブというお気に入りの場所。

どんより曇り空のビーチのこの幻想的なムードもなかなかステキ。

真夏でも水はとても冷たいカリフォルニアの海。

家からビーチまでほんの10キロほど、でも気温は常に5，6度は涼しいです。

Jewelry Creation (Brass accents) - May 2022

 

I am back to blogging again after a long break, mainly because 

it's about time to clean my photo storage!😅

I have been deleting a lot of photos so I can take and store new ones 

but realized this: before deleting, why don't I share them here?

Most of those images can be found in Instagram@joonijewelry but 

I also wanted to revisit my old pieces, posting

some reminiscent notes on jewelry making of that time, etc.

 

These bracelets are done with silver with accents of brass.

As for gold accents, 

I had mainly worked with gold filled, soldering, bezel setting

as well as wiring (like these mini chandelier earrings).

Overheating gold filled simply melts away the gold coating.

That's the challenge of it.

When it comes to brass, you don't worry about that, yet

it does require practicing and getting used to.

It needs higher temperature than silver as it contains high in copper,

and the impression of working with it is....

it is much harder, in the sense of tough and solid (because of zinc)

than silver or copper.

Unlike gold filled, brass does tarnish over time but 

not as much as I anticipated when stored correctly 

and I do like the texture when oxidized.

I also enjoyed hammering and fabricating carefree on brass.

These long gold stick earrings are brass soldered on gold filled ear wire 

-just to avoid the allergy issue!

新たな写真の保存スペースのために古いのから削除しているうちに

過去の作品を振り返ってそのときの制作についてひとことメモをここに

残して記録していくのもいいかなと思いついて。

 

というわけで、

このブレスレットたちはシルバーにブラス（真鍮）の

アクセントを加えたものです。

上のミニシャンデリアイヤリングのようなワイヤーを使ったもの、

ロウ付け、ベゼルセッティングなど、ゴールドは主に

以前からゴールドフィル（金張り）を使っていますが、

制作中に加熱しすぎると金のコーティング部分が溶けてしまうというのが

一番の難点です。

 その点ブラスは、取り扱いに慣れる必要はあるものの、

ゴールドフィルのような心配は無用。

ただ、銅を多く含むためシルバーよりも高温を要し、 

扱ってみた印象は、シルバーや銅よりも断然「硬い」です。

亜鉛の硬さ。

 

ゴールドフィルと違ってブラスは時間と共に変色しますが、

保管に気をつければ思ったよりもいい味が保てることもわかりました。

いぶすといいかんじの質感が出て好きです。

めいっぱいハンマー打ちしたりあれこれいじっても平気、

というのも楽しい点です。

ゴールドの長いイヤリングは、ブラスにピアス部分はゴールドフィルを

ロウ付けしました。アレルギー対策です◎
